A great time was had on Saturday, June 30th, in downtown Wilburton at the Relics and Rods Car Show, Swap Meet and Cruise Night. We had one hundred and seven registered entries at the car show. Cars and trucks of all kinds lined up along and all-around N. Central Street. Four food vendors and six craft vendors had a great variety of wares to sell. Live music was played by Big Marty & the Dirty Dogs, a kid coloring contest was monitored by YAB and SWAT kids, games were played on the court house lawn, and the kids scavenger hunt hosted by TSET drew many children. Few participated in the car smashing that was available all day. There were thirty two beautiful ladies that participated in the pin-up contest sponsored by The Pink Wolf Photography. This was a great new addition to the car show.
We began the evening by Cruising Main Street during the first Cruise Night of the summer. From classics to newest models, all vehicles were welcome and encouraged to participate. We welcomed everyone to participate by cruising or by sitting back and watching all the cars and entertainment from your favorite spot on Main Street. The Burn Out took place at 7:30 PM at 1314 NW Highway 2 hosted by Marks Towing. The winner of the $200 burn prize was Carol Chatley. Following the Burn Out, we hosted the Flameout competition in the parking lot of the Main Street/Chamber office. Michael Millman Sr. took first, and Vinny Roberts took second.
The finale of the day was the city-wide fireworks show starting at 9:30 hosted by the Wilburton Chamber of Commerce. It was visible from anywhere on Main Street. It was a wonderful to hear all the positive feedback on moving the show into town. A special Thank you to J R Donoley and Bill David Donoley for supporting the idea of bringing the firework show into town. They, along with several others, have assisted in the process, from addressing last year’s situation, to helping clear land for this year’s show, along with much more. Their support and efforts have not gone unnoticed.
